Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who are these courses intended for?
A: These courses are designed for serious train enthusiasts looking to go beyond simple maintenance and deep into the world of model train diagnosis and repair.

Q: Can I sign up for a specific segment of a course?
A: Courses are available in a linear progression only. Just like you wouldn't build a house starting with the attic, we provide a solid foundation that builds upon the information learned in each segment.

Q: How long will I have access to the course?
A: You will have access to the course for one year after the purchase date. After you complete the course, you will continue to have access until access expires.

Q: Do you provide tools and testing equipment?
A: We do not. Since you will have access to these videos for one year from date of purchase, you can watch and see what tools you will need or want for yourself, and decide what works best for you.

Q: Do you provide written materials for the courses?
A: The only printed materials provided are those listed in the course descriptions. The MTH course provides the MTH Service Manual for download, and the Lionel course provides the Lionel parts list and exploded diagram.

Q: Can I come to Trainz for hands-on training?
A: At this time we are unable to offer in-person training.

Q: The courses just aren't for me. Can I get a refund please?
A: We understand this information may be beyond what you're looking for.
We will honor refund requests under the following conditions:

  • Refund is requested prior to beginning Section 2: PS2 of the Repairing MTH Trains course.
  • Refund is requested prior to beginning Section 2: Lionel Electronics of the Lionel Trains course.
  • Request is initiated within 14 days from the date of purchase.

Refund requests can be submitted to [email protected].

Q: What is a passing grade for each quiz?
A: A grade of 75% is required to proceed to the next lesson.

Q: How many times may I attempt a quiz?
A: You have three chances to pass. If you are unable to reach a 75% grade on your third attempt you may contact us to request a section reset.

Q: Ok, I'm ready. How do I sign up and take the class?
A: Click here to watch a video tutorial on the process.

Prefer reading over watching? You start by clicking the Enroll Now button on any course or bundle. You will be directed to a checkout page. Once you have checked out, return to the course, and click Start next to the first module in the curriculum. When you complete a module, the start button will be enabled for the next module.

After you have reviewed all the modules in a section, you take the quiz for the section. When you successfully pass the section quiz, the next section will be available. When you complete all the sections and pass the final exam, you will be awarded a certification of completion and will be able to download the remaining documentation for future reference. You will have one year to complete the course once you have enrolled. Good Luck!
